One of North Carolina's premier and newest state parks, Lake James State Park features the pristine 6,510-acre Lake James which was completed development in 1923. Located at the base of Linville Gorge, the lake and surrounding forest area provide breathtaking views of the Appalachians along the lake's 150 miles of shoreline. Guests of the park are also presented with many recreation possibilities, from swimming and sunbathing to boating and water skiing. Lake James State Park is located between Asheville and Hickory in beautiful Nebo.
